Taiko is Physical

Taiko requires full body movement in order to play.  Wearing loose fitting clothing and bringing plenty of water to class is important. 

 

Taiko is Community

Taiko is a community that celebrates the tradition of Taiko, the Asian American experience, and diversity. 

 

Taiko is Spirit

Taiko is energy and we release that energy when we play the drums and give voice to our spirit, called "kiai" which literally means spirit voice. 

Taiko is Drum Building

As a Taiko community we build our instruments.  This brings a greater appreciation for the art form when we build the instruments we play.

Our goals for taiko in 2010 are:

  • Share the sense of spirit, empowerment and community that is part of the taiko experience.

  • Form a Community Group - taiko players who are committed to practice, performing and the community.

  • Find a permanent home for taiko - an artistic drumming and movement space.

  • Build taiko drums!
